I recently purchased a 1873 44-40 Winchester 3rd addition 24 inch barrel..  It has a heavy four piece Brass cleaning rod kit that the end screws off.  Appears to have been used a lot.  I have a 38-40 that also has a kit but it is made of all steal.  The brass one has a what appears to be a mop end for a handle the steal one has a small round brass handle.  I would guess the brass one is a aftermarket, maybe both are.  Did Winchester make a brass cleaning rod?

Jerry,

The only thing brass on the factory cleaning rod is the round end that is screwed on but some had a steel round end. The rods were all steel.

Can you post a picture of the brass one? I’m wondering if it for a different model or an all together different manufacturer’s rod.

Sincerely,

Maverick
