With the serial number of the second model 1866 musket 44 rimfire 32xxx, this puts this rifle mfg in 1870. This rifle does not have the bayonet attachment. It is in exceptionally good condition. Am I correct reading Madis book that there are no records or letter available on this from Cody?
The only other exterior marking on this I can see beside the SN is a horizontal B right after the SN and a possible V on the lower tang (very small). I understand many of these muskets went to foreign countries.
What have I got?
Scott

Picture will help us tell what you have.

Not many ’66’s have a bayonet attachment for the saber bayonet, most used the Springfield style triangular bayonet that fit over the front sight. I have ’66 musket ser#23346, which doesn’t have a bayonet lug either. My ’73 musket #426480 does have the lug and sabre bayonet

Scott,
The 66 and 73 bayonet will look the same just that the 66 is a little smaller.
