I have a nickel plated 1866. It has a P.S. in slightly smaller letters stamped underneath the serial number. Can anyone tell me what this means?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello Darlene,

I have not ever seen a stadard production Model 1873 with a "JA" serial number suffix. What I can tell you, is that the very early production Model 1873s did not have a letter on the end of the serial number, then in later years, an "A" is found on the end of the serial number, and still later, a "B" was used.

Can you post a clear detailed picture of your Model 1873 serial number?

Darlene,

If the 73 is really 1046, that would be a real early gun with some special features. Post pictures of the overall gun so we can see the configuration as well as the closeups of the serial number. I too have never seen a JA suffix. Some of the early script serial numbers can be hard to read too, 7’s look like 1’s.

You have to upload the photos to a web host like Photobucket. Then resize them so they are not too big, like 600 – 700 pixels wide otherwise it will make the page too wide and you will have to scroll side to side to read a post. Then you put a link to the photo in the post. You put the link on a separate line and hit the Img button to add a code to the beginning, past the link and then hit the Img button again to add the code to the end.
