OfflineRegarding the factory ammo for the old Henry’s and 1866s, I’m trying to get a feel for when the ammo was no longer readily available for public consumption. Ball park. I know they quit making it. I know you can still get it for a price. But about when was it that you couldn’t walk into your average store and buy a box to go plinking or hunting with?
Thanks in advance.

OfflineI believe some company in Canada made a limited run in the 1970s, but I’m unsure.

OfflineMany years ago I bought a couple rounds of Dominion (Canadian) and fired 2 round off in my 66 rifle.

OfflineThe .44 Henry Flat was listed in Remington’s ammunition catalog until at least October 1936. The next edition available to me is dated July 1939, and it is not listed. In the book "One Hundred Years of Winchester Cartridge Boxes, 1856-1956", by Ray T. Giles & Daniel L. Shuey, it is stated that Winchester listed the .44 Henry cartridge in catalogs until 1937.
Actual production had likely ceased some years prior to the last catalog listings by both companies. Just a guess on my part, but I would say that by 1940 it would have been mostly gone from store shelves.
