Hi Bert,
I came across this one at Julia’s. Too bad for the extra holes. Do you have serial# 1028466 in your survey?

Bert,I’m not sure I know how your survey works. But a friend brought over a 94 this afternoon Serial No. 1903852. Any help?
Don,
It will be if you can tell me which caliber it is, and if it is factory drilled & tapped for a receiver mounted peep sight.

Bert,
Do you include firearm serial numbers and characteristics from auctions and internet sales in you survey?
Do you prefer to be informed of Winchesters from folks who own them?
Reason I’m asking is that the last two or so rifles I’ve purchased, you likely have seen on auctions or other sites.
I do include information in my surveys from auctions and internet websites when it contains the necessary details required in my survey document. That stated, I do not have the time it would take to view every single auction and website. Thankfully, I have several volunteers that are real good at finding Winchesters for me on the many different websites and auctions around the country (and world), and then forwarding the information on to me. As for my preferred method of surveying each individual Winchester… I like attending as many gun shows as possible and viewing the gun in person. Getting the survey information directly from the people who currently own them is also beneficial.
As for the last two you purchased, the odds are 50/50 that I may have seen them. Please send me a PM with the information for them.

Bert,
Out of curiosity and interest mostly, would you be willing to share the features you do catalog in your survey (I assume the columns of your Excel spreadsheet)? I have 6 pre-64 M1894’s in my meager (by WACA standards). If you don’t already have them I’d be willing to share.
SN’s
351736 (Eastern Carbine)
401374 (26″ Full Octagon Full Magazine)
377150 (26″ Half Octagon Full Magazine)
539410 (SRC)
383926 (Takedown Carbine)
1992394 (Carbine)
And do you record variants? I have a M64 Carbine SN 1173913

Steve,
Yes, I do record all of the variations. Send me an email, and I will send you a copy of my spreadsheet.

Bert,
My bad it’s marked 30 WCF. I think this is a 30-30 caliber. Yes it’s a SRC, however sometime in the past the ring was cut off and then it was filed flat to the receiver. I’m new at this, I apologize for mis-reading on my part. This rifle’s history is mostly from southern NM. And spent it’s life in a saddle scabbard, tending cattle and hunting. It also has a long-range rear sight that folds up and is adjustable. At some time the front sight was remade from a dime or other coin because you can still see some of the coins markings. Also right behind the hammer on the upper tang it has been repaired, welded. I wish it could talk, would be interesting I think.
Bert,
I just acquired a nice model 94 from the original owner. Probably 98% gun.
Serial number 1369243
NOT flat band
marked .30 WCF
Type 8 upper tang (no markings)
checkered hammer (second design)
checkered steel butt plate
Since this is made in 1946, and not a flat band, can you tell me the month it was serialized?
Thanks,
Al
Al,
Per my research survey, the Flat-band production began very near serial number 1373600 which I have extrapolated to be in late April of 1946. If my extrapolation tables are close to the truth, that would make your Model 94 a March 1946 production Carbine. If your curiosity gets the better of you, contact Pauline Muerrle.
