Very nice looking Don! That is a new addition to my data. Thanks so much. A nice late rifle with the rear sight positioned an further from the receiver than early carbines. That way buckhorn style sights could be used.

The new rear sight location began to appear on rifles manufactured (receivers serialized) in mid 1926.Michael
Good to know–thanks Michael. Learned something new today. Wondering if the rear sight dovetail moved on any other models during this timeframe, such as the model 94. Or was this change made solely on the model 92?

Don,
The rear sight dovetail on the Model 94 was moved forward after 1942 when the No. 22-G with a 3C elevator was changed to using a 1C elevator.

Good morning,I am surprised that there was a 16 year differential between the two models!

Winchester installed the No. 44A Carbine ladder sight as the standard item up through early 1932 then switched to using the No. 22-G as the standard rear sight (coincident with the change from Nickel Steel to Proof Steel). From 1932 through 1942, Winchester used the 3C elevator with the 22-G (due to the position of the rear sight dovetail slot). When production of the Model 94 was resumed post-WW II, the dovetail slot was moved forward to accommodate the 1C elevator.

Don,
Yes, that is a special ordered “Eastern” Carbine. When a Rifle butt was ordered, a “rifle” sight was often included. The rear sight on your Eastern Carbine is a No. 26 “California Buckhorn”.
I looked at my survey and found (69) Eastern Carbines that were factory fitted with rifle buttstocks.
