Thanks… it is a new entry in the Model 64 survey.
Winchester was real busy making a substantial batch of Model 64 219 Zipper rifles at the time your rifle was manufactured. Below is a brief listing of my research survey;
Column 4 is the status of the receiver frame being D&T for a peep sight
Column 5 is the butt plate type
Column 7 is the upper tang marking type

Bert,
I have found two Model 64 219 Zipper standard rifles in an upcoming auction. Both have serial numbers indicating 1951 production per your Red Book and the WACA look up table. But something ain’t right.
1819924 appears to have a 26″ barrel with bolt peep sight. No D&T on left receiver. Strangely, the description says 1936 production.
1799416 appears to have a 26″ barrel with barrel mounted sporting rear sight. Left side of receiver appears to be D&T for peep sight.
I can’t tell much else about these rifles from the few photos available and am confused about the serial numbers. Specifically, would 1819924 be correct as described with a bolt peep, no D&T, in 219 Zipper? Or is 1951 too late for a rifle in this configuration? How can I tell if this rifle is correct?
Thanks for your assessment.
Mac
Mac,
I really need to see the pictures of both rifles. Please send me a link to the auction you found them in.
As a point of interest, I have Model 64 S/N 1799413 in my survey, and it is identical to your description of 1799416.

Bert,Here is the link. You will need to scroll down through the description to see the few photos that are available.
I expanded the full profile photo of the M64 Zipper with bolt beep, 1819924, and the barrel appears to have a rear sight dovetail with blank and two proof marks. I can’t tell what the proof marks are. Possibly the full Winchester proof and a circle P proof.
Appreciate your thoughts.

While I cannot state with absolute certainty, I suspect that this rifle was either a parts clean-up gun, or a special request, and that Winchester used one of their mail order parts barrels to assemble it. The fact that it has a bolt peep sight is what led me to that conclusion.
