Hello Reid,

Your Model 43 was factory drilled & tapped to mount a scope, but only the receiver frame rings.  Your rifle has also had the barrel drilled & tapped, which is something that Winchester never did on the Model 43 rifles.  Pictures can be sent to my email address – [email protected]

You can   add 33354A  .22 Hornet..Model 43.

New member, just signed up today.  I have a Win 43 32 I got from my Grandfather. I checked with Winchester and they couldn’t confirm the manufactured date. Here are a couple of pictures including the model, caliber, and serial number.  Any idea when it was mfg?  It’s in mint condition.

I don’t know how to insert pictures but this is on the barrel:

You undoubtedly checked with the Browning Arms Company (the current lease holder using the trademarked “Winchester” name).  As you discovered, they do not have any information (or records) for the pre-1981 production Winchester firearms.  The Cody Firearms Museum (CFM) records office has the original Winchester serialization records for the Model 43.

Interestingly, I already had your Model 43 rifle documented in my research survey.  When I looked it up in the records, the date of manufacture for it was October 11th, 1948.  I documented the information for it in late November 2023.

Later this year, the new article I wrote discussing the Model 43 will be published in “The WINCHESTER Collector” magazine (click on the picture to enlarge it).

I did send an email to Winchester mid 2023 asking about the mod 43 32-20. You are correct, the response was from Browning. I don’t know how you got the information to register it but glad it was done.

I found it interesting, or shall I say odd, that the rifle I have says Model 43 32, not Model 43 32-20.

I discuss that in the article, but for everyone’s benefit, the early production Model 43 rifles that were chambered for the venerable (old) 32 W.C.F. cartridge were marked “32 WIN.”, with the later production rifles marked “32-20 WIN.”
