I agree with you Bert.  Just make note of the serial number.   I do have a question about the forend.  Is there a difference underneath where the machine cuts were done?  Most that I have looked at have a much deeper and longer cut.  Did this cut change when the spring type was changed?  What made you think this was once an octagon forend?
