Bert, I’ve just finished reading a book on H. Pope and his barrels. The book shows a few 85’s that were modified. Any interest?
There are a small number of collectors that have great intertest in the H. Pope built Single Shot rifles. He did a lot more than just the barrel work on them. I would not pass one up if it was appropriately priced. Unfortunately, most sellers place too high of a premium value on them.

Would you like the specific information like serial numbers and such? There are some pictures of the guns and of some of the modifications. This could be added to your research list.
Sure… it never hurts to have that information.

I did go back through the book and only 1 rifle had the Winchester Ser# listed. The rest of the Winchesters only stated the Pope barrel number.
Most rifles, whether a false muzzle barrel or not, were around a 30″ barrel.
Serial # 71026 is a 38-55, Pope barrel #130, fancy checkered pistol grip stock with cheek piece, case hardened receiver, nickel Swiss butt, double set triggers, hammer has been skelotonized and modified so it can be switched by a half turn of a screw between rim fire or center fire, #4 octagon barrel 29 3/4″ long, 1 1/8″ at the breech and 1 1/32″ at the muzzle. It is set up with a John Sidle 20 X scope. Rifle weighs in at 13 lbs and 8 oz.
