The B does not mean anything as I and others have tried to figure out. Some thought it was a change to the manufacturing process but no one has been able to document it. The first guns did not have a letter up to about 88,000 when a A started to appear to the serial number and then at around 170,000 the B was used and was intermixed with the A until about 182,000 when the B was used more consistently but there are A’s out to 200,000. You will find guns without a letter mostly with pistol grips since there was not enough room to stamp it but some pistol grip did have a letter.
