Winchester Model 70s have been used in War, Police work, and Security efforts.  Of course it would be.  It is the finest magazine rifle to be manufactured.  I am proud to say that  my Father in law.  Jim Moon used his 1958 Standard Model .30’06 when he was a young patrolman on the Cleveland Police department.  The time was July 1966.  The Hugh riots had started.  Jim originally from South Western Pa.  was a avid deer hunter.  Jim told me that his Captain asked him to take a roof top position with him when night fell.  Jim spent the rest of the riots working in that capacity.  This of course was a time before most Police Departments had “Special Weapons”.  After Jim passed away Ann, my Mother in law gave me his rifle.  I used it to take a Buck in Pa that Fall.  The rifle still has the Lyman 4 power All- American scope, and leather sling.  A treasure that I am proud to own.

Bo,

I not only enjoyed the story, but can relate on several accounts. I’m glad that you we’re able to take it out and Christen it in the deer woods of PA. It’s nice that you not only have good memories of your father in law, but are very proud to own the rifle, as I’m sure that you’ll be passing it down also.

Thanks for sharing.Smile

After watching this video, I dug out my copy of “Shots Fired in Anger.”

I’m about halfway through it and NO mention of his using a scope-sighted M70. (On Guadalcanal)

He does talk about his scope-sighted Springfield. (Must have been a Remington ‘03-A4. . . .as he complains he can’t clip load it ‘cause the scope base is over the ejection port and clip guide.)

Upon reading the comments below the video, I’m thinking the entire video is BS! . . . .and made by AI.
