Yes–“carabine” has a diff meaning in French: “rifle,” as in: “La Longue Carabine.” Read “Last of the Mohicans” again.
But it doesn’t look like a rifle to me. It has a carbine butt stock and looks like a carbine forearm to me–there’s no rifle forearm cap (zoom in on the photo).
