97 Trench

I would like to get opinions on this Winchester 97 Trench Gun #934681.  In reading Canfield’s book I think that this matches up with his description of an early WWII gun with the 6 row handguard and receiver markings but I would appreciate if the more expert eyes take a look and give me an evaluation.  Many thanks,[Image Can Not Be Found]

Paul,

I previously documented this gun in my research survey as an authentic Model 97 Trench Gun.

Looks good to me. Has condition problem, but a lot of them do. Are you buying this shotgun? How much may I ask? I would think this is an expensive gun. Bayonet Winchester marked? Here’s my 1943 vintage M97.  Big Larry

I would live with the condition.  WW II trench guns are hot and can be expensive compared to the WW I trench guns.

A US marked WW1 Trenchgun is worth way more than a Winchester WW2 gun. I sold my last one several years ago for over $13,000.

The WW2 Ithaca I had, sold for $17,500. I had several WW2 Winchester Trench and Riot types. All mint or real close. I just have the one pictured, left. I have all the accoutrements for it too. Mr. Canfield and Eric Archer were good friends at the time I was into US Martial Arms.  Big Larry

Thanks again guys for the confirmation. I’ll be into this one about $4k, obviously the condition isn’t great but I just don’t run across these very often and I’d rather have a legitimate one with condition issues than one that has been monkeyed with. The bayonet is a WWI Remington marked model.

Real authentic trench guns are hard to come by and I think $4K for this one is a good buy in my opinion.  Congrats on your find!
