I’m a new member by the way of coming into contact with this Winchester and Hotchkiss Cartridge display board. I’d love to hear and learn about it’s origins and any historical information you all may have! I appreciate the help and insights! Scrubbing the web I found a press release from Miller and Miller auctions but that’s about it.

Thanks Maverick! Jennifer and Gary did a great job with their pieces. I’ll dive into these a little more over the weekend, when I’m kid free, and report back with any additional questions.

I especially like the 2004 picture.  Doug Beneck had at least 5 different cartridge boards.  His son calls Jennifer the Paper Lady.  He also had an original Winchester Catalog that he wanted $3000.  I can’t remember which?  It was either the 1866 or the 1871?  He had a very large gun room and a second room upstairs just to hold all of this Paper.  Before he passed he had sold over $1,000,000 of Henry and 1866 rifles and a 100 round Henry box.  I was so lucky to be his friend and got to see all of his collection.

I’ve always found that board and the simple brass lettered WRACO Board most interesting of the cartridge boards. I suppose because they seem to be one of a kind.

Its always good to have such friends. I’ve got a couple of friends I need to go pay a visit and see all their stuff. I’ve got one friend that lives a 34 Hours drive away with an open invitation to come see him. But life happens. Then again, there is always the next life to look forward to. I pray I’ll see him again one way or another.

That sounds amazing Chuck! From my past professional career with Exodus Outdoor Gear, I had similar opportunities to see whitetail and other taxidermy collections and trophy rooms all across the country. It was always amazing to hear the stories tied to each “trophy” and the majority of people we met were top notch. If you’re into whitetail hunting, the series is Whitetail Cribs and can still be found on YouTube.

I’ve thought about creating a similar series focused on firearm collections for my new employee venture. I think it would be slam dunk and a ton of fun to put together!

If I recall correctly the folks that run RIA Auction Company once had a pilot tv show about the high end firearm auction circuit, of course it was tailored towards their own auction house, that seemed somewhat promising. But I don’t know if they felt or the network people felt it was repeatable enough to make an entire tv series. I think they were trying to cash in on the wave of firearms related TV shows at the time. Like Sons Of Guns and American Guns, etc.

Now in the current YouTube / Internet Era, I suppose such a series would be successful, if done right of course. I imagine the trick would be finding enough willing individuals that will share their collection for viewing to make the content. Of course I’m sure you’re well aware of how hard getting collectors to open up their house to such thing are. I would imagine though that firearms collectors would be even more shy than Taxidermy Mounts / Shed Collectors, but certainly a similar sort of crowd.

Sincerely,

Maverick

P.S. Mr. Sylvester, I always enjoyed your and Mr. Hofer’s content. Its a true shame dealing with China screwed over your last business venture. But imagine that if you put as much effort into the new as the old work, you’ll highly succeed. Best of luck with your future endeavors!
