If you zoom in, you can see the .38-70 is restamped, probably made from a .38-40 mold.

Look at the ‘3’ of the ’32’ of this mold, and compare to the bold ‘3’ of the 38-70 mold. They appear different. I am uncomfortable bidding on this one. Does anyone out there feel confident in doing so? If so, then this would be a ‘bargain’.

OfflineI would say double stamped. You can’t compare letter styles since you don’t know when each mold was made since stamps are always getting repaired and are made by different engravers.
I would be more concerned about the mold cavity. It looks so fresh with no blue in it. When I get home Tomorrow I will compare it to a known good one.

OnlineI have a original 38-70 also and agree with Bob that the Cavity has been re-cut with a modern cherry.
