Saw this posting on Craigslist of all places yesterday. I had to work, so my dad took the 4 hour trip and purchased the entire collection for $3,000.00. They even threw in a whole box of antique Winchester ammunition (many 2-piece boxes in the mix). Dad’s on his way home now with the bed of the truck full. All 400+ items are Winchester. Pretty amazing collection. Can’t wait to see it in person. Evidently, the seller is the daughter of a lifelong Winchester collector that recently passed away and they sold the house and needed to get rid of it fast and didn’t want to have to move it all. Supposedly, he spent his entire life wandering the western states in junk stores, etc. assembling this collection. Actually, very sad that someone spent their entire life devoted to their collecting hobby, then to be sold off in a matter of minutes once their gone. I guess the son inherited all of the Winchester rifles–one can only wonder what the rifle part of the collection consisted of.

The Craigslist link is no longer active but assume you got a really, really good deal. Looking forward to your pictures and report.

Dad and I went through some of the stuff last night. There’s so much stuff, it’s overwhelming. There are literally hundreds of old Winchester tools–from all different sizes of screwdrivers, wrenches, S-wrenches, pipe wrenches, monkey wrenches, hammers, hatchets, axes, pliers, block planes, punches, chisels, scribes, angle squares, hacksaws, handsaws, hand drills, drill bits (all sizes), scissors, about 30 flashlights, a dozen headlamps, padlocks (not reproductions), scales, ice skates, about 25 pairs of roller skates (some new in original boxes), books/advertising/old targets, antique ammo, handloading tools, bullet molds, wooden ammo boxes, huge amount of kitchen cutlery, even a push lawnmower, and the list goes on. This is the largest group of Winchester Store items I have ever seen in one collection. All the boxes literally filled the bed of the truck. We plan on going through and try to organize it this weekend. I’ll take some photos and post them when we’re done.

Thanks guys, definitely a once in a lifetime deal. It’s a strange feeling though…Dad and I have spent many years scouring junk stores, antique stores, estate sales, etc. looking for this kind of stuff and only came across a handful of items. It’s our passion and “thrill of the hunt” so to say. Now that we hit the mother lode, there’s not much left to hunt for. It’s like looking for that grand daddy buck every deer season and one day you finally bag it. Now what? Don’t get me wrong, as I’m thrilled as hell to be a part of this discovery. I guess we now just sit back in awe and admire what we now have (and try to figure out where the hell to put it all).

Don
What a haul! Thanks for posting the pictures. I’d better not let my neighbor see them or you’ll have a knock on the door in a couple days!

Many of the items have been put up for auction through Ward’s Auctions if anyone is interested in any of these items. The current auction runs the month of November. More items will be put up for sale on future Ward’s Auctions. I provided a link to the site below.
