The color of the rack, whether stained, fumed, or aged natural, is original or reproduced "Golden Oak" - a historically popular finish for Oak furniture and paneling, particularly for things made or built in the Late Victorian/Edwardian Era, from about 1880 to 1920.

A Golden Oak gun stand as part of a long gun display would be "period correct" and unsurprising for any establishment selling Winchesters during that period.

I am very tempted to add this to my list of things to shop build. The materials cost wouldn't be cheap if you insisted on quartersawn or riftsawn White Oak in the thicknesses required. The good news is a lathe wouldn't be needed- I don't own one.

I realize a shelf could be made to accommodate these variants but the simplicity of these racks is intriguing. They would also showcase a Schuetzen butt.

I'm still hopeful someone will undertake the task of building table-top show racks, I wish I had the talent, shop space and equipment to make them. I don't need one but I know the market is there for a limited supply.

Thank you Buck94! Looks like the same rack. Could have been built to look like the one in the auction. I have no dogs in this... I don't have it for sale.... don't want to buy it.... I just admired it and was curious. He said it was original in a friendly conversation! Here's another Pic- you can see the same supports.

The joinery is child's play unless a purist wanted to make it harder than necessary. The real trick is getting good stock, which problem you've already solved.

I've actually took a hard look at those racks and being retired am thinking about maybe making one or so. It's crazy how busy and active we get in retirement, but as a choice. I just gave a close Carpenter friend, some select Cherry and Black Walnut from our past property timbering we had done where we always find time to pick out some select timber for our own lumber needs as part of the deal/package. One nice piece of Cherry was over 50 years old, and 15 inches wide! Still pristine as we store them in a controlled climate!

We'll see as it gives me something to chew on while I'm mowing and picking up leaves in the tag behind Cyclone Rake Vacuum!
