They were once very popular, with several different companies making them. Best type was Brayton’s, sold by Marble’s, which held the aux. cart. at the front of the adapter, so the bullet was close to the rifling. It was fired by a separate firing pin within the adapter.

OfflineTo be more precise Winchester called them “Supplemental Chambers”.


Used for target practice or for hunting small game with a larger chambered rifle. These some what replaced “Short Range” cartridges for a time.
