For those who haven’t had the pleasure (?) Of trying to load ten .351 Winchester Self Loading cartridges into one of the skinny extended magazines Winchester made up for law enforcement and guard duty,  it makes wrestling a greased pig easy by comparison. Those springs have not weakened over the Decades.

I called around to see if anybody made a mag loader that might fit. The only polite answer I got was. “Whut’s thet?”

So I went to my shop and designed The Little Wonder. It consists of two parts, the Clamp and the Poker. The Parts illustrated are made of Maple.

The reason the Poker is left long is to keep it out of your eye if your hand slips or the Clamp is inadequately tightened. At worst, it will get chewed up a little by a ceiling fan.

Tomorrow,  my 07 is going to get loud at the range or I will know the reason why it won’t.  The Caldwell Brass Trap will be tested, too. In case it doesn’t work, I’m bringing my wife to mark down and retrieve brass. (I haven’t shared this with her.)20260914_133657.jpg

The 5 rounders are tough i imagine the 10 are worse.  I know Lugers came with a small metal loading tool but I’ve never seen one in use.  Necessity is the mother of invention.  It’s genius if it works.

Maybe you should bring some gloves for your brass catcher, Bill. Those cases will come out hot and will take awhile to cool tomorrow. Loader looks good, poker needs a T-handle and the clamp needs a cupholder but other than that it should work just fine.

Bill,

If your wife can’t make it you can always pitch your tent and shoot from inside.  Not only will it catch all your brass but you will also be in the shade.  Make sure to keep the muzzle outside though or the window flaps fly up like Dumbo’s ears every time you pull the trigger, just sayin’….. Laugh

Best Regards,

All useful suggestions..a cautionary note to Bert: there is a reason her nickname is Higher Authority.

I have an uneasy feeling the requisite dinner will have to be some place so dim I can’t read the menu,  the Maitre d’ will have a posture like a cobra and his hand out for a C-note to avoid being seated downwind of the grease trap.

I probably could have bought a Korean brass finding robot for half the probable meal tab. Big D really is the Land of Wretched Excess.

But I’ve grown accustomed to her face.

Dang it!  My patent attorney dropped the ball and those Texans beat me to it.

I put the XL on my Christmas list but will still shoot prone from my REI tent.

Thanks for the link!

Now I’m confused.  Why is she shooting instead of picking up the brass?
