Recently picked up an 1895 in .35 Win as a knockabout woods rifle. Years ago I bought a bunch of Kynoch 250 grain loads at a gunshow. This was my way to justify “another” Winchester to my wife, have all this ammunition so I need a rifle to shoot it with HAHA. Unfortunately Berdan primed so the cases are useless to me. Anyone have a source for .35 Win brass as I will have to reload when my ammo is gone? May be awhile as the old crescent butt is decidedly unpleasant off the bench. Unless I can source a shotgun butt for it in decent shape. Tough to find.

You can also reload the cases with Bertram primers. I use an antique igniter tongs, which are very common here. Alternatively, you can convert them to Boxer primers, as long as the diameter is the same.

But if you can’t use them at all, I’ll be happy to take them off your hands.

You can make cases out of Hornady 405 Win. 30-40 Krag is also possible, but they are shorter, which you have to consider when setting bullets. Some also use the 9.3x74R. However, the rim diameter can become a problem.

Greetings from Germany

Thanks for the input, Stefan. If I find some brass here I will keep you in mind for the Berdan primed stuff.

Mike,  A suggestion for you as I had the same issue with my 1895’s in .405.  Get some soft white wood dimensional lumber, a scrap would do, long enough to be the length and width of the buttplate.  Need it thick enough to equate to the width of the buttplate.  Scribe the curve of the buttplate and saw it out.  Use chisels to round the curve of the wood to fit the side to side curve on the inside of the main curve of the buttplate.  With a stretch on “recoil pad” to hold it in place you now have some semblance of a shotgun butt.  Not as LARGE as a true shotgun butt, still it is way more comfortable to shoot!  If your pine insert moves around too much, some tape will hold it for a while.  You want to have it deep enough so no steel points hit your shoulder.  Tim

May try that. A friend has an original lace on butt pad for a crescent 1886. I may try and get that out of him if I ever see him again with all this covid crap.

I have bought from this guy several times.  Remember, you have to multiply his price by .76 to get the US cost.   So $90 times .76 is $68.40 plus shipping for 20.

Bertram USA is now taking orders for brass.  I don’t know which calibers they are listing.

100 ea. for $320.
