Maybe if you post a picture of what you shot with a Winchester it would cheer us up, old or new photos. Call it shopping with a Winchester. T/R
No pics, but the last 2 critters I took with a Winchester were a huge bull moose and a Mountain Goat.
Shoot low boys. They're riding Shetland Ponies.
How about some fresh Impala jerky, or a tender Duiker? My favorite though is Greater Kudu stew.
All taken with a Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 in .270.

I wonder how much meat these old Winchesters have put on the table, I love a been there done that gun. A practical tool that has survived generations. To use these tools today is a tribute to their manufacturer. T/R

I love “honest wear” on a gun and to me there is no better honest way to get it than using a Winchester for what it was intended for. I bought that 1949 Model 70 used in 1979 and don’t know it’s previous history but I took hundreds of animals with it in Africa and it kept several local villages in meat for a long time. It has taken meat in the east, west, northern and southern hemispheres of the world. I own a lot of Winchesters but that .270 tack-driver will never get sold, I know the story behind every scratch and ding on it.

Great photos!
Pigs are some of my very favorite hunting. Good to eat and still give a good adrenaline rush when they burst from cover.
Here is an African Bush Pig I took from that same year. He was hung for a couple of weeks and then seasoned with bush spices and roasted over a spit till the meat just fell apart. Coupled with a few ice cold beers and there was no better way to end a day.

Here is a picture of my Dad and his dog. Sorry, I didn’t get it with his Winchester shotgun in the pic. This is in northern Missouri at a pheasant club. These are not tame pheasants set out on about 40 acres and you have to walk all day to get them. Yes the hens are legal to shoot and this dog hunts waterfowl and game birds. These were eaten soon after the shoot.

Sorry I can’t resist. As long as we’re doing old hunting photos, this is me and a little Texas whitetail from 2003. The rifle is the 1950 M70 30-06 standard rifle that I usually use for deer hunting.
The photo isn’t all that sharp b/c it’s from a scanned Kodachrome slide. Of course the lack of sharpness, along with the face mask, help cover my unattractive features. We can’t all be as handsome as JWA!!!

Shooting 19.5 grn of IMR SR4759 with a 260 grn cast performance gas check bullet (hard cast) and CCI LR primer. This load shoots close to 1600 FPS. The downside is that there isnt much bullet expansion and you either have to have a heart shot or hit major bone to seal the deal, depending on how tough your deer are. Im currently looking at bullet molds to cast my own softer bullets using 20:1 lead to see if I can get some semblance of bullet expansion. These hard cast bullets are like shooting a FMJ at these low velocities, both holes about the same size.
