I slipped off to the range yesterday to try out my ‘new’ Winchester Model 1873 44 W.C.F. shipped November 16, 1882. The rear sight notch is very tiny and blurry to my eyes, so I could not do the old rifle justice. Nevertheless, it did give me a three-inch, 5-shot group at 100 yards. If I had a tang sight, I think I could get that group down to closer to 2″ at 100 yards. I’m shooting soft-cast bullets over 20 grains of 5744 for roughly 1,350 fps.
