I haven’t shared a new episode recently, since we’ve made a couple of Brand X and ranch history episodes. Here’s our latest. It’s a “How To” for anybody interested in how we made the portable target stand we pack around the ranch. Of course, we’ll test it and some home-made targets with vintage Winchesters and a single action army. Mark

Nice target stand, awesome backstop. Just goes to show what can be done with some surplus material and a bit of American ingenuity. I’d bet that mild steel would work fine for my slowpoke 38-55’s and maybe even 32-40.
I keep thinking we’ll see a mule deer strolling by in one of these videos.

Nice looking stand. We made one once and thought it was tough enough until we shot it with a 30 WCF. Blew right through it and sent the jacket back at us about 10 yds. It was used for pistols and 22’s from then on.
Thanks guys. I kind of suspected the 3/8ths mild steel targets wouldn’t hold up to the larger calibers, but wanted to test it out. This made a me a believer in just how much better AR500 steel is for targets. Even the 30-06 and 45-70 barely leave marks on them. AR500 is used extensively for plating earth moving buckets for wear resistance. I’m thinking I may have to buy a sheet to re-plate my excavator and loader buckets and have the leftover pieces to make targets.
I’ll probably go ahead and weld up the holes in the big target and use it for 22’s and handguns. Been planning to make an episode where I attempt to reproduce Elmer Keith’s controversial 600 yard shot on a mule deer and that target might work for it. It might be kind of boring video, though, watching me shoot all day until I get lucky and hit it.

Thanks a bunch, coldweld. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the response from European veiwers. I’ll keep making them as long as they continue to be fun and people are watching them. Mark
