THe 1876 Winchester has been one of my favorite rifles to shoot, load for, collect , and just have around to admire. This one is one of my favorites , a very late 3rd. model 28″ oct. barrel full magazine rifle . Was lucky enough to purchase the original loading tools from the previous owner . The old rifle is in good condition with a better than decent bore. I have used this old 45/75wcf for just plain fun shooting and hunting for some yrs. now. It is my go too rifle for hunting these last yrs. It has taken many deer wild hog and a number of other wild game in the recent past. The load used in this old Winchester . Bullets cast from soft lead in an original Winchester mold @ 352gr. and .458+ , lube is my normal Bees Wax/ Tallow 50/50 , CCI #200 cap, brass formed from 50/90 Sharps, filled with 2FF Swiss Bp. and seated in the Original Winchester tong tool. This load is as close as( I )can make to original ammo for this old 1876 Winchester rifle. The old rifle still can hold her own on the targets and in the field 100+ yrs after being made . Just cant ask for more in my book. A pic. of a 50yd. 3shot group with the old rifle and load described. ,,,,,DT
Neat stuff Dusty. Looks like you are having a good time replicating the early load and it shoots pretty good. Nice looking rifle too.

I’ll have to sit down one of these evenings and write up the story behind my old ’76 (pictured here) and how I lucked into getting it, at a reasonable price for 1985, how I made the first cartridges for it and developed a load that hit bulls-eye on the very first shot after sitting in a basement for over 30 years.
