And here I thought I was breaking new ground with my .405. I have 20 cases loaded with black powder and ready to go. 77gr of Goex cartridge with a 20 to 1 home cast bullet with a gas check lubed with SPG/DGL mix. I think it weighs 280gr or so. Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to shoot these loads. I had in mind the old 40 72 when I came up with my BP loads for the .405.
My 95 has a shotgun butt and a climin lyman peep, so it’s pretty near the ultimate hunting gun.
This was a very fun article.
I recall hearing old-timers talk about the .405. The word was, “you can eat right up to the bullet hole.”
I have a memory of having a conversation with my Grandfather over 50 years ago – about the .405. I mentioned I wanted one. He was not in favor of the idea – but had never used one either. I can still recall him smiling and chuckling at the idea.
