Over the last couple years I’ve tried a bunch of different paper targets: the 8″(?) black bull and other black bulls. I recently tried some orange bull’s eye targets which I liked OK with open sights when the light was right but I couldn’t see them very well at all with a peep when the sun wasn’t at my back. I tried paper plates last year and got them out again today. I’ve found the 6″ paper plates with a brown background seem to show up best for me using the six o’clock hold and putting the entire plate on top of the front sight. I was curious what some of you have found to be comfortable targets to your eyes with open iron or peep/aperture sights.
Thanks,
Brad
Since I use only circle aperture sights now, I have to have an appropriate (for the distance) different size black Bullseye to line up the 3 circles, which works amazingly well,(learned this from Olympic freestyle .22.s ) I like to adjust my sights so bullet holes show in the white sidelines as I have trouble seeing the holes in the black , even with good spotting scope , especially at longer range , and in bad visibility conditions. I can move the sights (rear tang) around and shoot different groups around the bull without going up to patch the target. But when I could see better and shot orig blade and notch , I preferred a flat top rear notch over a buckhorn , that I could consistently align the tip of front sight with the flat of rear (in later years with a dab of florescent orange nail polish on tip of front blade) for a six oclock hold on a black bull
Altho me purchasing the florescent orange nailpolish at my local small town drugsrore did generate some rumors
Edit the nailpolish comes off your original sights with just a rub of the hands .

I use a 6″ black with a 2″ bull all on a standard 8 & 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper as shown in the photo below, for 100 yard targets. The white bull is still visible with open sights at this range and gives a nice point to aim at, at 100 yards. I find the 2″ white bull is too large for 50 yards, and too small for 200 yards. Since most of my shooting is at 100 yards, I just photocopy a 100 sheets at a time.
