Good Afternoon All, Wondering if I can please receive some feedback on experiences with American Pioneer Powder FFFG for reloading 44-40 for antique Winchesters. If possible, also please let me know who is likely to have this item in stock. In general, I am looking for a black powder substitute that doesn’t run too hot and safely fills a case below a 200 grain bullet. Thank you.

I used to use cleanshot powder which is similar to APP if not the same as I remember. BP is measured by volume. You will have to have some type of measure like the LEE dippers. The rest will be by trial. You want the bullet to be seated on the powder and not compressing it. It will take some time. Also go to YouTube. Hope this helps some.

What are shooting it in?
I load all of my 44 WCF cartridges with 2400 powder… a lot easier to load, and very little cleaning effort required.

I’ve tried a few BP substitutes. Never again, with the possible exception of Pyrodex. I don’t know if you’ve tried Holy Black, feel free to PM me if you have any questions. For real BP FFFg is too fine for the 44WCF, FFg would be better.
