200 gr Jacketed Hornady bullet.

What might be a suitable, and safe, load and is it accurate?

The listed load for the 33 WCF using IMR 4198 is 33.0 grains with a 200-gr Hornady FP bullet, producing 2,190 fps.  Starting out, I recommend 32.0 grains and work up slowly for best accuracy.  The 33 WCF is a cartridge that does not perform well with lighter than listed loads.

I have that same manual.  I bought it new – it was Hornady’s current edition at the time Wink

Mattern (1926) lists a few reduced loads but I haven’t been able to locate No. 17 1/2 or HiVel powders. My first loading manual (1979 Speer) doesn’t list the 33 WCF.

Bert-

I’m proud to be a member of a group where I am one of the younger members at 65. Lyman’s 45th (1970) is guilty of the same shortcoming and it was printed well before I took up reloading. Bit of a sore spot; at a committee meeting later tonight I’ll be the “stupid old man” but I’ll do my best to keep the young whippersnappers in line. Wish me luck!
