This past Wednesday I was lucky enough to kill this buck with my 67 year old SG chambered in 300 H&H. I’ve got it loaded with 180 grain Accubond’s over 70 grains of H-4831 and sighted in 3.5″ high at 100 yards. I was using my homemade shooting sticks and dropped him in his tracks at 276 steps across a fairly level creek bottoms. His rack was 22″ wide and he would have been a 9 pointer had his brow tines not been broken. Field dressed weight was 169 pounds, live weight would have been around 210. Dragging his butt across 250 yards of mud, water and ice was hard on an old man. I bought this rifle from my cousin the end of September and this was the first buck I’ve taken with it. Last Saturday I used it to drop the biggest doe I’ve ever killed, also dead in her tracks from 200 yards. She field dressed 110 pounds, her live weight would have been a bit over 140. I think I’m gonna like this 300. Out of all my Model 70’s it is by far the slickest of the bunch.

Tom, Love you choice of guns!. My hunting gun for the last 24 years is a 1953 std grade 300 H&H. I load a 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip with 60grs of 4895, 3150fps , nice flat load. In October I shot a nice 5X4 mule deer in Wyoming and I’m currently carrying it in the Wisconsin hunt. It’s a one shot kill gun. T/R

Haven’t tried any 150’s. I’ve tried 165 PT in this rifle an it shot ok. Tried Speer 180 gr FB, 180 gr PT an it shot that weight better but it simply loves these 180 gr Accubonds. This 300 seems to kill as well as my old 270. I’ve got a spot and stalk bear hunt booked for Idaho next May an I’m taking this 300. I’m thinking it’s gonna work just fine as long as I do my part.

Tom, Four years ago I bought a 1950 270 standard, thought it would be lighter and easier to carry. It shot accurate, was easier to carry, but did not drop deer in there tracks like the 300. I went back to my 300 H&H, it’s more accurate than I can aim, no elevation to 250 yards, they die wear they are shot. Even at 8500′ in Wyoming I gladly carry the extra 2 inches of barrel and one pound. Watch your brass they crack just ahead of the belt after two reloads, I only reload brass once. T/R
