I just won an 1890 on Gun Broker. Kind of unexpectedly. I bid 500 a week ago, the only bidder and was just notified I won it! Tickled to get it, especially for that price which I think is very low.  When would serial number 397038 been manufactured. Any thing to look for that maybe fixed, replaced or not original?

Thanks

Congrats, fun gun to shoot. It was built in 1908, as a WACA member you have access to the serial number lookup on our home page. Click on the dropdown navigation box at upper right of home page, then click on “When was your Winchester made?”

Per the information published by Ned Schwing in his superb reference book discussing the Model 1890, the last Model 1890 serial number manufactured in late December of the year 1908 was 398006.  Based on that fact, your newly acquired Model 1890 was undoubtedly manufactured earlier in the month of December.

You will need to post pictures of it, or the URL to the Gunbroker listing before anyone can opine an answer to your second question.

Thank you all so much ….. I overlooked the serial number lookup post on the menu…. got it now.

I asked the questions regarding the gun on my OP thinking I would post pictures. It seems posting pictures is not as easy As I expected here.

Ill work on it

Here are pictures….124 of them WOW!

https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1073737482

Looks to be all original.

Prices of model 1890s have been depressed IMO (at least run of the mill ones).

Congrats! A nice little 1890 at a very good price. I watch a lot of auctions and see beat up guns selling around $400-500
