They were primarily on the gallery specific guns such as the 62/62A and the 61 as an additional advertising gimmick for Winchester but beware, there are a plethora of fakes out there! Schwing covers them in his book.

As much as we all like the painted Red or other colors, and even the non painted version, I was told, by a fairly reputable Gallery rifle collector that the unmarked, Gallery rifles we’re a little less produced, compared to the Winchester marked on the left side of the receiver. I have a hard time believing it.
I think the Winchester marked, like most, like them better as they’re very attractive to the collector, whether painted or not.

I am with you, I don’t believe that statement at all. I have about 60 true gallery rifles and only 2 have the roll-marking. Standard unmarked gallery rifles (in my experience) are WAY more plentiful than the roll-marked rifles.
That is just my experience though, I have not done a survey to verify any of that but on the surface it supports your opinion.
