Hello All,
looking online & I’m confused with this rifle I’m trying to sell. It’s a 69A Target as far as I can tell, but has a hooded front sight & cal markings as shown in pics (if I can figure out how to attach images!) Swivels look original but not in the correct position on the forewood.
is this the target or match 69A? (Or a combination non original put together?)

Hi Mal,
That is neither a Model 69A nor an actual “Target” or “Match” version.
Your photos depict a standard catalog #G6901R (Type 2) Model 69 (pre-cursor to the 69A) equipped with the standard 96B peep sight.
The rifle appears to be correct but the swivels have been added and the front sight hood has been replaced with a non-Winchester hood. The front swivel is located in what I call the “British” position so they were likely added down there in your neighborhood. The blunt forend stock (with no notch for the safety) is the transition style which dates your rifle to either 1938 or 1939.
Hope that helps.
Best Regards,
.

Thanks for that, your help is very much appreciated. I’ve modified the advertisement accordingly. These bolt action 22’s are not my usual bread n butter….
