Curiosity has me again, Several 62A’s chambered in 22 short I have seen do not have the embossed “Winchester” logo on the receiver. Every once in a while one pops up with it. I see the faked 61 Michael has pointed out, some one has gone to the trouble of replicating. What, where or why was the inconsistency of the receiver markings on the 22 short only rifles. Was it a special order thing, if it was advertising, one would assume they would all come that way.

Ned Schwing suggests it was a special feature ordered by Shooting Galleries, he has the number of special order M.62s made between 1953-56 at 499
And because the roll mark was a special order that probably was what most of those had to make them special rather than special wood etc.
I have the good luck to own one of these. Unfortunately it isn’t one of the post war types that had either red or gold paint filled lettering.
