What oil or color mix did you use for the finish?
  

One coat of boiled linseed oil, followed by three coats of Watco Danish oil in medium Walnut. When the last coat was still a little tacky, I wiped it with mineral spirits just to remove the tackiness. After it dried I very gently applied an extremely thin coat of true oil just to bring the satin up a little bit and give it a little hardness.

And to settle the question, the buttstock has definitely been cut. I just measured the length of pull and it is 12 in on the nose.
