Hello, i am new here with a question.
I bought a pump action Winchester a while back, because I learned to shoot with a 62A. It was sold as a Model 62, and is in good condition. It has an exposed hammer. The barrel is labeled Model 62, 22 Caliber, Short, Long and Long rifle. The serial number is 324xxx, meaning in the 62 series it would be made in 1952. That is too late a serial for a 62 and should be a 62A at that age. The serial number is on the bottom of the receiver and the tang. The receiver serial number has a B underneath it, which some sources say means it is a 1906 model. If you look at the 1906 serial list that means it was made in 1920. The receiver seems too well finished for that age. The finish on the barrel is more worn that that of the receiver. The magazine tube has a triangle loading port, meaning a short only gallery rifle. The forearm is 8 inches, with 17 rings, correct for a 62 A. I removed the screw and tried to get the buttstock off the tang to see if it has leaf springs, correct for 1906 and 62. Could not get it off, not willing to tear the gun up to learn that information. However, it has the hammer spring adjusting screw on the bottom of the tang, which I think means leaf springs. It was reasonably priced, in good shape, and I just want it to shoot, so I don’t mind if it is not original, just want to understand what it really is. I think it is a good testament to Winchester’s interchangeable parts that 3 models from the 20’s to 1958 can interchange parts. Please tell me what I have. thanks.

Pictures would help but you quite possibly have a third variation Model 1906 with a replacement barrel from a 62A and the magazine & possibly fore end wood from a 62A Gallery Gun. In short, a Frankenchester. I believe you are probably correct in your identification of the components and your rifle has components from at least three rifles.

Thankyou. Took some pictures to post but apparently I can’t.
Because you are a WACA member, there is no reason why you cannot post pictures.

If you look under “Member” it says “WACA Guest” on his last post. Could that keep him from being able to post photos?

Put the pics on a shared site and post the link!
Do the above on a site like imgur or use google photos to share or email them to saxdogg “at” hotmail.com and I’ll post them here for you. Take several of the serial number and all the features you mentioned!
