I have a fine 62-A. Because of my poor eye sight, I cannot see the front post clearly. I have seen several front sight with an ivory(white) bead. What is the correct height and is there one by Marbles or Lyman? I have seen some on E-Bay that are for a Stevens. If it has a 3/8 dovetail will any front sight work. Also where can I find a steel buttplate for a 62 or 62-A?
Thanks

Unless it’s exceptionally low or high, beyond the degree to which the rear sight can compensate, yes. The very best front sight Win ever produced was the 93 A/B post, but they were intended for use with an aperture rear & might not be best for an open rear sight; besides, they’re scarce & expensive. Most original ivory bead front sights have yellowed to the point that visibility is diminished, but a brass bead can be polished bright. The very best hunting sight is the brass-faced Redfield Sourdough.
Most likely place to find the BP or any other part, as well as sights, is ebay.
My 62A came to me years ago with a replacement front sight that featured a microscopic bead. Brownell’s used to catalog a generic [house brand, not Redfield] “Sourdough” front sight in a single, unlisted height. I bought it, installed it, and happily used it for decades. Recently I installed a blank in place of the rear sight and added a new Marble’s Improved tang sight, which makes an excellent combination with the the big, square bead up front. The Sourdough features a square brass bead set at an angle on its body, to better reflect light. If they still make the sight, I’d try it.
If you prefer a white, round bead, I’d get a big one. The Marble series white beads are made of white plastic that is non-yellowing.
