i see two guns listed in rock island auction that read the same in the comment section but one is listed as a gallery (22 short only) and the other is not a gallery but also says ( 22short) . Can someone tell me what is difference besides double in price..
A standard 62A in .22 Short only will have a cartridge shaped loading port on the magazine tube. A 62A Gallery model is also chambered in .22 Short only but will have a triangular shaped loading port to allow the use of a gallery tube speed loader.
There are a few other minor differences but that is the most readily visible means of telling the two different cataloged 62A models apart. If the Gallery model is roll-marked “Winchester” on the side of the receiver it also adds a premium to the value.

Thank you for the help. I’m starting to look for 22 rifles for my grand daughter who is seven and shows a lot of interest in my small collection ( helps me clean them ). I would like to start with some 22’s for her . Thanks again
Very good idea. I gave my Grand daughter a Winchester M47 single shot when she was 15 years old. She is 49 now and still has that M47. Big Larry
As JWA pointed out, a Winchester model 62A Gallery Gun will be chambered for .22 SHORT and should have that specialized magazine port to facilitate using the loading tubes.
Pictures are always nice so . . .
Some pictures below of my 62A Gallery gun, SN 369774, showing the caliber marking on the left side of the barrel, the unique loading port, blue wear on the mag tube and barrel from the tie down strap, the “Winchester” roll mark on the left side of the receiver, the tie down strap, some loading tubes with a box of Western SPATTERPRUF .22 Shorts and a picture of me June of 1956 at the Coney Island Shooting Gallery using live ammo. And if you hit the bullseye at the shooting gallery, you got your picture taken. However, I do not shoot left hand so either the negative got reversed or the picture was taken thru a mirror to keep the camera from being shot. I have another 62A Gallery Gun, SN 261784, in much nicer condition but it does not have the roll mark.
