Was reading a few range reports here lately and just wanted to add my 2 cents. I purchased this 1938 52B from Michael (twobit) back in February and finally got it to the range. I was mostly shooting my 1951 M70 in 30.06 but ran some Remington Lightningbolt through the 52B to see how she chooched at 100yds.
Just wanted to let twobit know she’s found a good home and is continuing to please.

Would love to if I can find some here in the People’s Republik of Kalifornia. I’ve never even seen the stuff in real life. Most places won’t ship to anyone with an LA address, and as of the end of the year there’s no shipping to Kalifornia at all.
I’ll see if I can get my local place to get some for me. I’m starting to hoard anything I can’t load myself like I used to hoard fireworks when I was 12.

Nice! When you have a rifle that looks and shoots as well as this one it’s a shame it took you so long to get it to the range. Bummer about the ammo situation out there.

Indeed a shame. I realize that now. That thing is a hoot to shoot!
Also, I’ve got nothing against the black rifle guys that inhabit my local range (and ‘ll admit I enjoy a lot of different firearms as well), but there’s something super satisfying about “showing off” a little with a 79 year old .22 with an equally vintage optic (that most of those guys have never seen before). It’s really effortless.
My 1951 M70 (I mentioned it in another thread and y’all were very helpful helping me understand the Bear Cub scope/Stith mount setup) is a tack driver too. That one gets looks from the tacticool set as well. Especially when repeatedly ringing the pie plate at 500.

I agree, there’s something very satisfying about giving the tacticool kids history (and shooting) lessons.

I have a friend in Southern Calif that has been stockpiling 22 for the entire year. He buys 5,000 round cases anywhere he can get them. I live in Utah and have no ammo problems. Everyone ships here, but our local stores have plenty of ammo. I have over 25,000 rds. of every kind of 22 known to man stashed away. Got most of it from Calif. before I left there in 1997. K Mart used to sell it for 79 cents a box then. My Dad bought me about 20,000 rds. I used to have a source for free Red Box Eley and that dried up. I think I have 3 bricks left.
My advice to you is, get out like I did 20 years ago. Big Larry

Trust me, Big Larry, if I didn’t have a 30-year career as an engineer in this entertainment machine, I’d be out in a second. Regardless, I managed to purchase a nice, average home here which will afford me a little acreage and a comfortable home when I do get out. I just need to figure out how to generate a little income to pay the bills. But I’m working on it.
I generally don’t have issues getting ammo, and the prices have stabilized since the panic a few years ago, the issue really is that, given the ridiculous laws and restrictions, it’s tough to get a variety, or find a particular brand outside of the big mainstream stuff. You kinda have to buy what’s available, although there aren’t any shortages right now.
One day I’ll join the rest of you in Free America. I dream of the day I can plink cans off of my own back fence like I used to when I was a kid in Ohio.

I know several shooters who’ve left Kalifornia and several who’d like to because of the anti-gun bias. I’ve got a better idea; let’s invade the place and run the libtards out. It’s too pretty a place to give up and leave.

It’s too late for California. Just 500 miles East is a gun guys paradise. It’s called Utah. No funny gun laws, you can own a Machine Gun with no one looking over your shoulder. It is just as pretty here, and we do get a little snow. Big Larry
Indeed B.L. Every few years, when I can get some time off, I grab my camera gear hit the road solo with only a vague itinerary. A few years ago found me wandering through Utah on my way up to Wyoming. So gorgeous in Utah that I spent more time there than I anticipated.

Like Alice’s Restaurant, you can get anything you want. BTW, the leaves are dropping like flies here and the rest are very colorful as in your picture.
Soon, the snow and cold will come and put a damper on my shooting and 4 wheeler riding. I am retired so I do not have to work in the snow, so I really like it when it falls. The harder the better.
JWA is right about AZ. too. Nice, but too hot for me.
My M1873 22 short will be back from Turnbulls Thursday, all fixed and ready to shoot. Cannot wait for that. Big Larry
