The 2025 article is a more detailed & revised version of what I wrote back in 2010. It is in the most recent WACA Collector magazine.
Your R.F. Sedgley Single Shot is interesting in that it is still a rim fire. Most of the rifles that were built by Sedgley (using the leftover parts purchased from Winchester in 1923) were center fire 22 Hornets.
The thick-side high-wall receiver frame on your Single Shot is serious overkill for a 22 Long Rifle. That style of receiver frame was commonly used for the center fire Muskets in the 45-70 caliber.

Thanks, Bert!
Awesome, loving the latest article, great stuff.
Yeah, I wish my grandfather were still alive so I could ask him more about it. I suspect that the team, or a team parent (Upper Darby High School, Upper Darby, PA just outside of Philly) had some kind of deal or connection with Sedgley, but that’s just a guess on my part. I think I have a team pic around somewhere, I’ll try to dig it up.
Agreed on the overkill … it’s 8.6lbs! A beast of a 22LR, but very stable if you can get locked in well. It’s also pretty challenging to load/reload under competition pressure.

OfflineWelcome. Mac! Cool story, cool rifle.
I seem to recall something about Sedgely, glad Bert was able to elaborate on an interesting tidbit of Winchester history.
