Rifle finally got here from Wards Auction. M06, # 765695, shipped 1927. Rifle does not match their description and their photo’s were bad and dark as well. This rifle is at least 98%+. A far cry from their description. Took over a week to get here from Oregon to Cedar City. USPS is getting bad. Anyway, I am happier than a Clam. I would imagine, like all the other Stainless Steel Winchesters, this one is quite scarce, especially in this condition. I really like this Model. I now have 4 and am complementing buying more. Just nice ones as I am getting picky in my old age. Big Larry
Big Larry – I’m really happy it turned out so well for you. That doesn’t always happen in our field. Particularly when you don’t get to handle the piece before you buy it, have bad photos and so on. In the psychology field they call this, “intermittent reinforcement.” Actually, a powerful phenomenon.
As a general rule, I do not do auctions. Too many addons to drive the price up. But, I had never seen one of these, and quite frankly, I didn’t know they existed.
I also have a stainless 1926 M52, but it seems they are more prevalent than most stainless Winchesters even though they are seldom seen.
I am thinking of starting a M1906 collection. Neat little rifles and very hard to find with better than 1/2 a bore and 25% blue. I have over 50 S&W’s now and maybe it’s time to collect something else. I have 90’s, 06’s, 61,s, 62’s, and 62-A’s and a Rossi M62 SAC. Probably the most accurate of all my pumps. Big Larry
Very nice Larry!
I am looking forward to seeing it in person.

You are “D” man and I am looking forward to you picking up the M1885 and maybe a few others.Yes, it is a real nice rifle. Nicest one I have ever seen. Big Larry
Larry, I have only bought 3 collector guns in my life that I had not picked up and looked at. 2 of these came from Wards. I did call and had a phone conversation before bidding. Both were better in person than their pictures. I don’t plan to make a habit of this though. I’m not saying all of Wards products are of the same condition either.
The last rifle I bought from Wards was a Winchester M59, featured as 100% original. When the rifle arrived it was a reblued POS. Hard to tell in the poor quality pics. Big problem to send it back, so I kept it. A while later, I bought a real nice and original M59 for $325 off Guns International. M59’s are one of the hardest 22’s to find in great condition.
The M06 I just bought was much better than the description and will look even better with a coat of Ren Wax. Big Larry

Good to see you getting back to Winchesters, Big Larry, congrats on a very nice score! Nothing against S&W’s, competed using them for years and still drool a bit whenever I see a nice N-frame. Used several for social equipment over the years, a few even saw service as duty guns. One match gun retired with its third barrel, second cylinder, second hammer nose and nobody knows how many springs…but still the same gun after well over 100,000 rounds.

Photos, even good ones, are one thing, having the gun in your hands as Wards’ “experts” did something else. No excuse for such incompetence.

Maybe so. We’ve discussed one seller that posts pics and points out blemishes that I would likely miss with a hands-on examination. Some of you have a very good eye for issues, I’ve sure missed a few!
