Bought a real cheap but nice M69-A. While cleaning the bore, I found that it had a ring about 3″ down the bbl. My friend took it to the range and tested it for accuracy and found it to shoot as well as some of my other M69-A’s.

Is this normal? I figured it would not shoot well with a bulged, ringed bbl. Has anyone out there had any experience with a bad bore? I have fired rifles with old corroded shot out bbls and they were fairly accurate too.   Big Larry

Larry,

A ring in the barrel 3″ in front of the chamber is unlikely to cause any problems, accuracy or otherwise.

Did an accuracy test on it and you are 100% correct. It still shoots well and is very accurate. Even at 50 yards it shot well. Weird how this happens. I figured it was a lost cause. For $188, I will give it to my Grandson. Externally, it is a 95%+ rifle. Thanks Bert.  Big Larry

Sorry Bert, the ring is 3″ from the muzzle.  Big Larry

Hi Larry,

I have had many rifles with ringed bores still maintain reasonable accuracy, I am not surprised your rifle is still accurate.  I am glad it shoots well, your grandson should enjoy it.

Best Regards,

He is in Italy right now visiting his parents and will be gone 4 months unless he finds a job there. He is hindered by the fact he cannot speak Italian. He found that out last time he was there. He is an Italian citizen, but cannot speak their lingo. His parents learned how to speak, read and write Italian. I will give him the rifle when he gets back and let him make the decision.

Hey, I was invited to Toms for Xmas dinner. I thought I would be alone again this year with my cats to keep me company.    Thanks, Big Larry

Glad you have a Christmas date, that was nice of Tom to invite you over, please give him my best wishes.   I am not home yet.  Working my way back from Boston today but flight schedules are screwed up so I hope I make it back for X-mas.

Have a Very Merry Christmas!

When in Boston, look up my birthplace. Chelsea.  Here’s one for you, my Dad was a US Marine in 1936. He was one of the few Marines to do guard duty on the USS Constitution. He was stationed at the Boston Navy Yard. You too have a nice Christmas, if you get home.   Big Larry

That would have been neat duty, as a history geek I have been on the Constitution many times.

Didn’t make it home, got stuck in Atlanta last night.  Still trying……

Best Regards,

I do hope you get home by Xmas. You have a very nice family and they want to have their husband/dad there for the holidays. I have one Sister left and she is over 500 miles away in El Cajon, and neither of us can make that short journey. My grandkids live 200 miles from here in Northern Utah. Having probl;ems with my truck, so a drive up there is not possible. Tom, as you know, is a life saver for me. A great guy and just about the best friend I have. So, I had better add some Winchester stuff or get kicked off this forum. When you were here last, you never got to see my lever guns, handguns, or my M52’s. Next time you are here, I will drag them all out for your perusal. Have a few M52’s you may like. Merry Christmas to you and yours, and a BIG thank you for being my friend. Big Larry
