At it again. Wards finally delivered my new to me Deluxe nickel trimmed M1906. Much nicer than my previous all blue Deluxe. Nice bore and has not been re bbld. Near $2,000 after all the auction costs. I am very happy with it. A little cleaning and some Ren Wax and it will really shine. I’m hoping my friend Tom will take it out and shoot it.   Big Larry

Thank you. Been looking for a nicer one for quite some time, and most all were terrible or had the circle P for a re bbl. This one had all the bells and whistles. When the bidding time was up, I as at $1,100 so I went to bed happy. Got up in the AM and the bid was at $1,800. Just short of my max bid. I really think an auction should stop when the time is up. Late bidders should get their **** together. I am still happy even though they did bid it up. It’s a nice one. Thanks, Big Larry

That’s the chief reason I detest Gunbroker–there’s no “end,” as long as some Johnnie-come-lately keeps bidding.

Hey Big Larry,

I got some good news and I got some bad news.

The good news is I have a very high condition M1890 solid frame, 1st Gen with a 3 digit serial number in .22 Short.

The bad news, it would be expensive.

My M1890 is not as beautiful as yours, but once belonged to Dolores Strahlman, a stand in for Mary Pickford and a few others in the old movies. She gave it to me around 1959 for helping her around the house. That rifle means a lot to me.   Big Larry

I’d rather have yours than one I felt nervous about handling without wearing kid gloves.

Mrs. Strahlmans husband was a Dr., a Chief Surgeon, for the San Diego PD. He had passed a few years before I met Dolly. He left her with a brand new Cadillac, I forget the year, but she wanted to give the car to her Niece and it hadn’t been started for years. I was in High School auto shop and got it running. Drove it for a couple weeks and she gave it away. For getting it running, she gave me the 1907 vintage M1890 she had used in the movies. Bad bore and pretty much browned out. Most interesting lady I ever met.   Big Larry

Larry, I have a second variation model 1890 in so so condition.  .22 Short caliber.  I don’t collect that model, but it will be with me to the end.  Mom gave it to me one Christmas after she knew I was collecting “Winchesters”.  She bought it at a farm auction.  The barrel has the measles, as something spotted it that took the bluing off, but has a good bore, not perfect.  Generally tight, but not a great collector piece due to the spotting.  But Mom thought it a great gift and I loved her for her thoughtfulness.  I kind of can identify with you and your gift!  Tim

Nice Tim. I still have the 4 guns my Dad gave me. A M1903 Springfield,  a Remington 513T, a 1949 vintage Colt Match Woodsman, and a Belgian Browning 25 cal. he brought back from WW2. The rest of his guns were stolen. One was a 1937 Colt M1911A1 National Match. All family guns to be passed down in my family. Shoot your M1890 Tim. I have shot mine.  Big Larry

Larry,  I do shoot it some, at least once per year.  Just because!  Love the list of those your Dad passed to you, too.  Every time I shoot the 1890, its Christmas once more.  Do I recall the exact Christmas?  Not anymore at least.  Good memories at least.  Tim

Good news guys. For me anyway.

Just landed a very early 1908 M1906 with the “A” suffix. Third model receiver in 22 short only. These are very scarce. Has good condition as well. I thought I was done, and this popped up. I think I have most all the variations now.   Big Larry
