I’m looking for advice on a Model 90 Deluxe .22WRF that I am considering. Is there a reigning WACA Forum Model 1890/90 guru that I can share rifle info with who is able and willing to advise on rifle correctness and potential value? Thanks
Mac
Per Rustyjack encouragement I am posting photos of the subject Model 90 Deluxe .22WRF. Serial # puts it as 1920. Whatta ya think: right/correct, reblued/refinished, value?
Thanks
Mac
I wish the pic’s had better lighting, from what I can see, it looks original to me. The checkering is the most difficult thing to protect if refinishing a deluxe. Even if properly masked there are trace amounts of finish that will be present on the outside border of the checkering. This can be removed by “freshening up” the checkering which has not happened. The metal also looks good in my opinion, the only discrepancy is the tang plug screw which has no finish on it, that certainly does not match the rest of the tang. Possibly had a tang sight that was removed prior to being offered for sale or some place along it’s long journey ??? If you end up with it, drop me a note. I have several original plug screws with good original blueing.
As far as Price, I would check the auction sites for recently sold, condition comparable items.
Nice Rifle! It would make a wonderful addition to anyone’s collection.

Beautiful 90 deluxe …… looks correct to me as well. I have one that’s similar with a straight grip and H checkered buttstock and slide in 22LR. Mine is quite a bit later production – 1930. The checkered slide really sets these apart form other deluxe 90’s. I’m not sure when they started offering that variation, seems like the later ones, but couldn’t say for sure. Nice find ….. hope you are able to get it.

Very nice, wood really caught my eye! But I’m not the expert you’re looking for, haven’t stayed in a Holiday Inn Express in years.
Mike
Thanks to all for the advice and words of wisdom. I’ve got a reservation at the Holiday Inn Express night prior to jumpstart my pursuit (think I’ll rent out the place and send potential competitors down the street to Notell Motel.)
I’ll post follow-up info as available. In the meantime all other comments, be they from guru or not, are welcome.

Big Mac,Did you look at Ned Schwings book on the model 1890/1906 (Winchester Slide Action Rifles, volume I) he has a lot of info concerning the model 1890.
Al
Yessir Al, sure did. Got it sitting next to me and continue to double check as things come to mind.
Thanks.

Well gents I ended up on the short end of the stick on this one…a little too rich for my blood. Perhaps someone on the forum ended up with the winning bid and will tell us more about this outstanding Model 90 Deluxe .22 WRF. As TedK said in the string a “beautiful” rifle.
Thanks again to all for your guidance.
Mac
P.S. No Holiday Inn Express on this one, maybe next time.

Sorry. What did it sell for?

Well Chuck since you offered an opinion early on and gave me a ball park for expectations, and since you asked…$8,500.00.
As I said, a little rich for my blood…I’d certainly love to be able to say that I am the current caretaker of that rifle but not to be.
It sure was a beaut to look at and handle. Hopefully it ended up in a good home.
As Erin suggested I’ll keep my nose to the ground and see if I can pick up the scent on something similar but don’t believe I’ll soon see another like this.
Mac
P.S. On the upside, I saved myself at least $8,600.00
