Any encounters with the black moulded model 62A buttplates being marked M-72 on the inside . Rare day you don’t learn something , sold a 62A to a fellow that was concerned when he took buttplate off and was marked m-72 . I suggested it is correct likely parts cleanup . His 62A was 1952. I removed a buttplate from my 61 mag C 1960 low n behold marked m-72 . Grabbed a parts gun I had gathering dust c1948 . Same same . M-72 . Buddy is still a doubting Thomas . Any feed back is appreciated thx .

The newer style Butyl Acetate butt plate was first used on the new Model 72 in 1938 so Winchester marked the mold “M-72” however the same buttplate was then used on the post-1938 models 67, 67A, 68, 69A, 62, 62A, 47, 55 and several other rimfire models. Winchester used the same mold for each so post-1938 they are all marked M-72 on the back.
