I recently purchased a Model 63, built in 1924 by the serial number. The rifle is in great shape, just a touch of surface rust on the barrel, and completely functional. There are 2 screws on the bottom of the pistol grip portion of the stock, that appear to have held a cap at one time. I’ve looked around but can not find a stock cap for the bottom of the pistol grip except on some custom Turnbull 63’s. Does anyone know if there were any version that came with a stock cap? The screws and holes appear to be original, but I’m no expert, just an enthusiast. Any help would be appreciated.
Well, and for starters, the Model 63 was first introduced early in the year 1933. It is not possible for your rifle to have been manufactured in 1924, unless it is actually a Model 03 (the predecessor to the Model 63).
Capped pistol grips were standard on the “Fancy” (Special) variation of most Winchester models.

The Winchester factory pistol grip cap only used one screw.
