I recently obtained a 62A gallery gun. The roll mark shows Winchester Model 62A .22 Short. Loading gate is correct triangular shaped opening.
PROBLEM: When the first round is lifted by the carriage up and into position for the bolt to come forward to push the round in the chamber the next rounds in the magazine start to pour into the receiver area below the carriage which jams the whole mechanism. Literally everything freezes and cant move with the bolt still in the rearward position most of the time. The problem I am having is the gun jams due to rounds coming out of the magazine when I load a round into the chamber. Most of the time I cant even get one round up into the chamber because the rounds come out of the magazine immediately when the carriage lifts the first round up.
My first guess is that the square part of the carriage located front/bottom might be worn on the front/ bgttom corner portion allowing the rounds to pass by as the carriage moves up.
Another guess is that the magazine tube is spread?? where it enters the receiver?
I dont want to buy a whole carriage not knowing for sure but I think that might be fix here. Both sides of the gun match serial number wise but what good is it if it does not operate properly? I bought it not only due to its value as a collectible Winchester but also because I love the Winchester pump rimfire rifles. One of my favorite rifles I have owned for some time is a 1960 production first year, Model 61 chambered in .22 Magnum. It is just a pleasure to shoot, all day.
Anyway, if anyone knows how to address this issue with the 62A I am all ears and open to any suggestion that will fix the problem.

Tom,
You will need to confirm it has the proper cartridge lifter in it first. If you can post a pic of the left side and the front of the lifter we can determine that. Place a loaded 22 short cartridge in the lifter for the side shot. Once we determine it has the proper lifter we can start trouble shooting.
