Hi guys,
I am not very certain that this rifle is original. I have not seen the SN previously but the round barrel “Short Only” configuration first appears in the 79900 range during 1947 which is about a year and a half after production began following WW II. This rifle is SN 6433X and corresponds to early 1942 and at the time when all I have seen are OB configuration in Short Only rifles. In addition, For the high edge wear seen on the receiver the muzzle and magazine end show no wear or loss of bluing. A sale is pending but I am not real comfy with the originality.

Ok, so I am getting up the nerve to see if I am learning anything…… the stock looks like it may have an extra coat of something( it could just be shine of the picture) but it looks a little to shiny- also the fit of the stock around the receiver/action looks a tad off. The proof mark on the receiver looks like something that’s not original- again that could just be on the zoom in, but it doesn’t look right.the underside of the pump looks awfully shiny for an original. The underside of the tube magazine looks to nice to be original,I could be way off and I am ok with that- but I realize that not commenting because I am slightly worried about being wrong won’t get me anywhere.

The shot of the upper tang and surrounding area is my biggest hang up and the wood finish in general just doesn’t look right. Could be lighting, a light coat of oil or polish, could be nothing. Very nice looking gun but it seems a high percentage of guns in this configuration are fakes so we might be a little hard on any offered for sale.
