Well that kept me busy for awhile.
I knew I had a M 68 in the back of the safe as well as M 60A in both barrel lengths.
I was wondering if the M60 would just drop into the M 68 stock, unfortunately my M68 is the early model with finger grooves so nothing proved, I was also wondering if rather than just the stock being thicker the screw was redesigned in 1937 when they changed to the concealed type.
So none the wiser but I think that what you have is a standard M 60a in the later stock
Yes.
It is the later long barrelled version marked 1933
The cut out is kinder cute.
Sorry about the photo would you believe the camera had a smudge just in the wrong spot.
There is a small book waiting to be written about the variations of the M60, quite amazing in the short span of its manufacturing considering the prices and the times.
I was able to revisit this Model 60A today and upon further inspection and newly acquired knowledge I have determined this is a later stock presumably a Model 67 was the doner This stock has been reshaped to fight allot like the original and the beaver tail shaped front to resemble the post war 67. The woodworker did a good job and the patina on the wood suggests that the work was done along time ago. The time spent and knowledge gained from all the research I did is priceless. If you look at it long enough it has a story to tell.
