I have my fathers first rifle that I’m trying to do some minor restorations for display only (although it is in working condition). My question is about the rear sight. This one has a small screw instead of the elevator. It seems to be level with the base of the sight and has no bearing on adjustment. Any ideas on why or what kind of sight this is?…it seems to be original but I cannot find any exact info.
Ok…I have been researching this for a few days and could not figure it out. No sooner did I post this I accidently searched winchester 1903 rear sight (it wasn’t on purpose) and there it was on ebay.
New question: how is it possible to have a 1903 rear sight on a 1902 rifle?
Confused.
People often installed newer sights they liked better than the original ones that came from the factory. It was cheaper than a new rifle.
